Sariska Tiger Safari Details

History of Sariska National Park

Sariska National Park, also known as Sariska Tiger Reserve, is one of the most iconic wildlife sanctuaries in India, located in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. Covering an expansive area of 881 square kilometers, the park is a stunning blend of dry deciduous forests, grasslands, rocky hills, and scrub-thorn vegetation. Sariska is part of the ancient Aravalli Range, a region rich in natural minerals such as copper, and is located approximately 106 km from Jaipur, 200 km from Delhi, and 107 km from Hindaun.

The park has a long historical and mythological significance. It is believed that the dense forests of Sariska were used by the Pandavas to hide from the Kauravas during their exile, as mentioned in the Mahabharata. According to Hindu mythology, Pandupol, a sacred site within the reserve, is where Bhima encountered the mighty Hanuman.

Sariska Gate vs. Tehla Gate:

Sariska Gate

Sariska Gate, also known as the Main Gate or Sadar Gate, is the primary and most popular entrance to the park. Located along the Alwar-Jaipur Highway, it offers easy access and is the most frequently used entrance for tourists visiting the reserve. The area around Sariska Gate provides the highest chances of wildlife sightings, including tigers, leopards, various deer species, and numerous bird species.

Tehla Gate

Tehla Gate, situated about 80 kilometers from Sariska Gate, serves as the entry point to Zone 4 of the park. This gate is less frequented, making it quieter and less crowded. While sightings at Tehla Gate are less frequent, it offers an alternate route into the park for those seeking a more secluded safari experience.

Key Differences Between Sariska Gate and Tehla Gate:

Wildlife Sightings:

Sariska Gate has a much higher chance of spotting tigers, leopards, and other wildlife due to its proximity to the core areas of the park. On the other hand, wildlife sightings at Tehla Gate are relatively rare.

Accessibility:

Sariska Gate is easily accessible from the main road, making it more convenient for tourists. Tehla Gate, however, is more remote and requires a longer drive through the park, which may not be as convenient for some visitors.

Crowds:

Sariska Gate is typically busier with tourists, while Tehla Gate offers a more peaceful and less crowded safari experience.

Sariska Tiger Reserve, with its rich history, diverse wildlife, and stunning landscapes, remains a prime destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts, offering a chance to explore Rajasthan's naturalĀ heritage.
