Jhalana Leopard Safari Details
Jhalana Leopard Safari Park: The Premier Leopard Reserve of India
Located in the vibrant city of Jaipur, Rajasthan, Jhalana Leopard Safari Park is India’s first dedicated leopard reserve, established in 2017. Nestled in the foothills of the ancient Aravalli mountain range, this unique sanctuary spans 20 square kilometers and offers a rich diversity of wildlife, making it one of the top destinations for wildlife enthusiasts.
The reserve is home to over 40 leopards, including 5 adorable cubs, making it one of the best places in India to spot these elusive big cats in the wild. Jhalana is renowned for its excellent leopard sightings, and it’s not uncommon to catch a glimpse of a leopard just minutes after entering the park. Unlike other predators, leopards in Jhalana are known for their diurnal habits, which means they can often be seen during daylight hours, confidently roaming their natural habitat without fear of human presence.
Apart from leopards, the park is also a sanctuary for a variety of other wildlife species, including striped hyenas, Indian civets, desert cats, jackals, porcupines, desert foxes, mongoose, monitor lizards, and jungle rats. Herbivores like sambar deer, chital (spotted deer), and Nilgai (blue bull) can also be found here, making it a perfect spot for both carnivore and herbivore sightings. The park’s vibrant ecosystem is complemented by a diverse array of birds, reptiles, and insects, offering visitors a comprehensive wildlife experience.
One of the most unique features of the Jhalana Leopard Safari is the Shikaar Audi, a historic hunting lodge of the royal Jaipur family located in the heart of the reserve. This three-story structure offers an elevated platform for animal spotting and provides breathtaking views of the surrounding terrain. Visitors can also enjoy serene sunrise and sunset views from here, adding an extra layer of magic to the safari experience.
Jhalana Leopard Safari officially opened for tourists in December 2016 and quickly gained popularity as one of the best places in India to see leopards in the wild. Its close proximity to Jaipur makes it a convenient and exciting wildlife getaway. Whether you’re a nature lover, wildlife photographer, or adventure seeker, Jhalana Leopard Safari offers an unforgettable opportunity to witness the raw beauty of Rajasthan’s wildlife.
